Take an Easter Break you've earned it!

Take an Easter Break you've earned it!

Depending on where you are in the world you'll have been in lockdown for a few weeks. Two things are emerging from these measures...firstly they are working (some countries are reaching their peak) and secondly they are not going away any time soon (more information is required).

Control the controllables

In a recent interview with a business peer about Scheduling for Sanity & Success, one of the strategies he shared was 'control the controllables'. By which he meant with so many things out of our control right now, if we focus on what we can control we can make progress.

Below is a link to our conversation, Darrell Evans insights come from over 25 years in business as well as the lessons he learned during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis.

Mastering your mind will change your lockdown experience

A book that had a profound impact on me when I read it a few years ago was Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl written by a holocaust survivor, who between 1942 and 1945 laboured in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished.

“Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” Viktor E Frankl

This book and others like it are a great reminder of just how much power we do have in any given situation when we remember that we're in control of what we think!

Riding the rollercoaster

There's no doubt about it, every guest I've had on the Productive Wellbeing Show over the last few weeks has touched on the same thing.

Each of us is riding our own unique emotional rollercoaster during this global pandemic, experiencing every emotion under the sun over and over again, and every time on a deeper level than before. That just when we think we've 'got it handled' or 'got a lid on it' something else comes to 'throw us off track again'.

Two key messages that I've take away from my guests and want to share with you:

  1. It really is ok not to be ok, to feel what you feel
  2. Control the controllable, strive for progress over perfection (do what you can)

No one is finding this 'global pandemic' a piece of cake. I've got peers that are in complete meltdown, some in total pivot mode, and others stepping into their role as leaders.

But there is no right or wrong way to handle any of this, as with all things in life there is NO degree in the benefit of hindsight - there is only how we respond to the challenges!

Fill your own cup up first

If you're a leader for people around you right now, maybe you're a CEO, Founder, Manager, an Assitant, Key Worker, Parent, Carer, Sibling or Friend it's important to remember that if your battery is not fully charged you are little/no help to others.

Take some time this Easter Holiday Weekend/whenever you are reading this article to do something that will recharge your battery.

This global pandemic is a marathon, not a sprint. All of us need to conserve/recharge our batteries not least to support and maintain our own strong immune systems.

If you need permission to take some time out this weekend, you have it, and if you're REALLY honest with yourself you know you need it. #healthiswealth

See you on Tuesday at 11 am for Episode 020 of The Productive Wellbeing Show I'm practicing what I preach and taking some time out for myself too this weekend!

So ready for these four days. After all the madness of the last few weeks it’s definitely time to switch off from work and allow myself some downtime to regroup. Excellent article Abigail!
