TAKE THE DRIVER’S SEAT

A few weeks ago, I bumped into a young man at a conference who has read almost every post I have published on Facebook. He introduced himself and we got chatting. As I would often do, I wanted to know more about him and what he does.
He’s been working with one of the leading financial institutions in the country for the past 5 years but as he said to me, he feels like he’s drifting away from his passion, without a clear goal and direction.
“Why do you feel that way? I asked. We got talking for another half hour as he recounted his journey and what he is truly passionate about. I said to him at the end of our conversation “ Take the driver’s seat and control the wheel”.
At different times or stages in our lives, we may feel like we are not in control. The feeling of losing control over something so dear and precious could be debilitating until we realise that actually, we are the drivers of our own lives, we control the wheel, our thought process and the actions we take every day to achieve our dreams and aspirations.
Living a fulfilled life starts from being in the driver’s seat of your own life. How do you take charge and control the wheel? Some nuggets I picked along the way:
1) Draw from your value system – what are you truly passionate about, how does that align with your values? When your passion aligns with your values, you will enjoy what you do and feel you are in control.
2) Pay no attention to situations that drain your energy – instead focus on what works and how to drive improvement in specific areas of your life.
3) Just do it – sometimes we overthink and over-strategize when we should simply take action. If you find you are interested in something. Just do it. You will learn from the process and improve as you go.
Concluding Thoughts
You are in charge of your life, your thought process and actions. Nothing is as empowering as the knowledge that you can change any situation in your life if you want to. The power really is in your hands.
As you begin another week, remember to keep both hands on the wheel and focus on what truly makes a difference.
Have a wonderful week.
