Take Control of Your Life & Career: A 3-Step Plan

Dear friends,

No matter who you or where you live, life is getting more complicated all the time.

It's more complicated to find a place to live.

It's more complicated to get a good job.

Having a job and managing your life around the job is more complicated, too!

Virtually everyone I talk to faces challenges in putting the pieces together to have the life and career they envision - and deserve.

What I've found after thirty years of coaching people to upgrade their careers and lives is this:

If you want to change your life for the better, you have to take control.

You can't wait for your employer to pay you more or promote you.

You can't wait for a better opportunity to fall in your lap.

You can't wait to see whether your situation improves.

If you want to change your situation, you have to take charge, and take action.

So how do you take charge of your life and career?

Here's my three- step process:

1. Promote Yourself to CEO
2. Create Your Vision
3. Step Out of your Comfort Zone - from baby steps to giant steps

Let's talk about these three action items in more detail.

Promote Yourself to CEO

Changing your life and career requires a mindset shift for most people. The first step

is to decide that you are the CEO of your life and career.

You are in charge. All the important decisions are yours to make.

Other people will make moves that affect you. Your job could change. Your landlord could sell the building you live in. A recruiter might reach out to you about an exciting opportunity.

Lots of people could do or say things that might affect your life, but YOU are still in charge. You are the director and star of your movie.

If you're not used to thinking about yourself as the CEO of your life and career, a good way to step into that mindset is to get a journal and write in it.

Another way to shift your mindset is to get together with friends who are also thinking about their lives and possibilities. The shared creative energy is so helpful and inspiring!

Create Your Vision

Take some time by yourself to envision the life you want and the career that supports the life you envision.

What sort of work will you do, and for whom?

Where will you live?

Who will you spend time with?

How will you spend your free time?

What will you learn that you don't know already?

To step into a new, empowered and elevated version of yourself, first envision the life you deserve.

Get clear on what you want, and the path to get there will become clearer too!

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Big changes come from little changes.

The more small steps you take out of your comfort zone, the easier bigger steps and then giant steps will become.

Here are three small steps to remind you how fun it is to try new things!:

• Try cooking a new recipe.
• Try learning a new language with a language learning app on your phone.
• Listen to new music. Push yourself to step out of what's familiar.

As you become more comfortable with unfamiliar tastes, sounds, ideas and possibilities, you can take bigger steps into the unknown (where all the good stuff is - from learning to compensation to self-esteem)!

There is still plenty of time in 2024 to upgrade your life and career in a big way.

There is plenty of time to step into a stronger, more empowered and more focused version of yourself - taking steps toward the life and career you envision and deserve.

When you're ready to take a big step, think about starting a business on the side.
