Take Control of Your Email. Take Control Of Your Day.
Like you, I am being bombarded with emails all day long.
At the end of my day, I make sure that I have gone through all emails. This is what my inbox looks like when I start the day:
Having an empty inbox allows me to be in control of my day. I can focus on “income producing” activities, respond quickly to my customer’s needs and be creative.
Here are three simple tips to help you take control of your inbox.
1) Review the email immediately and act. Address it and then either delete it or move it to a project folder.
2) If it is low priority and can wait a week or more, move it to your calendar to address when necessary and get it out of your inbox.
3) If it is informational only, review it and move it to a folder.
The key to managing your email is to ACT. If you delay, the emails start compounding and before you know it, you have hundreds in your inbox. This can make you feel defeated and deflated as you start the day.
If you want help with this, don’t hesitate to reach out and if you have additional tips, please share.

5 年Having a set time each day to process email also helps. Most email does not require (and few expect) an immediate response). When you batch that task, it often takes only a few minutes.? Then having a decision tree like you suggest, allows you to keep your workflow simple.? And like you said, move on to income producing activities.

5 年Using Outlook on the cell when out or between appointments helps.? Even if I only have 5 minutes I can use my phone to clear out messages or quickly respond to some.? It all adds up. ?
