Take a Chance on Me!

Many may be familiar with the Abba song that urges another to "take a chance on me". While the context of that song is more aligned to dating than career seeking, it is a sentiment shared in jobseeker circles and often in LinkedIn posts.
We are hoping that an employer will give us a chance to show them that we can do the job even if our experience appears otherwise. When they do not, and offer the job to someone else, we feel misread and disappointed that they undervalued our potential.
Perhaps you feel as though someone did not take a chance on you when you were passed over for a promotion, a project, or another opportunity.
Question: When was the last time you took a chance on yourself?
Have you taken a risk lately in pursuit of your dream? Have you stepped out of your comfort zone to “make it happen What new avenues have you pursued? Whom have you reached out to lately for a hello or for an introduction?
It may be uncomfortable and overwhelming to go where you have never gone before. The unknown is a daunting destination.
Start with something simple. Take a different route to the store. Change a daily routine. Push yourself to do one thing today that you might not otherwise do.
Understand and quantify your value proposition. Wear that proudly and advance in the direction of your goals.
Stay open. Take notice. Believe that you matter.
Making a habit of taking a chance on yourself will most certainly yield results.
Want to make a change?
It’s your move!
