Living in a different country to the rest of your family is not easy at all.
Sure you get used to it but the things that most take for granted like popping round to your mums house for a coffee, saying hello to your cousins new baby, celebrating your sisters birthday by going out for tea together, or even just helping out when someone’s not well - these things are huge when you don’t have the luxury of living in the same country.
Having to plan holidays around seeing your family and them doing the same can be a challenge, so I am forever grateful to have the opportunity to work remotely from Germany on occasion.
I know my going the extra mile doesn’t get taken for granted and don’t take it for granted either that I have this additional flexibility.
It made me think, we talk more and more about employee value proposition and how to build a culture attractive to gen z but in reality I absolutely do still believe that there needs to be “give” in order to “take”.
Yes, a company should spend time to look at their benefits package and make sure it’s competitive and attractive but I also think that an employer understanding their employees is equally important. Work from anywhere is not a policy we have at Search, but listening to our employees is.
If you're in a leadership role, regardless of what level your direct reports are at, ask yourself if you: listening, understanding and taking action?
