Take a break from LinkedIn
Toni Braxton had a hit in the 90s, Unbreak My Heart. Now maybe I’m too logical, and it’s just a song, but the lyrics always bugged me.?
“Uncry these tears” — what? How could tears be uncried, by drinking them? Yes, I know it’s figurative, not literal, but still. My Taurus brain can’t handle it.?
“Say you love me again” — Hello, problematic lyrics. Begging someone to love you again isn’t a badass move. If someone doesn’t love you, let them. (Thanks Mel Robbins.)?
And don’t me started on the emotional manipulation in Toni Braxton’s other hit song, Breathe Again. In which she threatens that unless her man puts out, she will be unable to breathe for the foreseeable future. Or, in fact, ever again. Wow, this dude must have been great in bed. And those lyrics are manipulative as hell.?
Anyway, you know I love an awkward segue from a random thought or funny story into my LinkedIn tip of the week.?
So this week’s LinkedIn tip is about taking a break. (Unbreak my heart, see?)?
Because I has a teeny tiny operation last week. And it took me a few days to recover. I naively thought I would be able to keep soldiering on, but guess what? I needed to rest, so I did.?
Instead of working, I cancelled my clients and binge watched English Teacher on Netflix. I also read Persuasion by Jane Austen.?
I skipped my weekly newsletter. I posted a handful of times. And nothing fell apart, no one noticed or cared. People generally wish you well.?

So this week’s task: take a break when you need it
Showing up online can be relentless. And it takes work. And if you’re like me, with? no staff, everything falls on you to run your business.?
So take breaks. And even better, schedule them in advance.?
Let go of the guilt that says you should be doing more. Just rest, when you need to rest.??
However, don’t let that break last forever, because it’s hard to get back into the rhythm of posting on LinkedIn.?
I'll be back next week with another action-takey LinkedIn tip.
Till then
