Take a Bow-Wow for Bobi: The Oldest Dog Ever

A few weeks ago, I read a?Smithsonian?magazine article about the oldest dog in the world. At?30 years and 266 days old, a Portuguese dog named Bobi was crowned the world's most senior dog, breaking an almost century-old record, per Guinness World Records. And considering the average age of a dog is 10-13 years, I assumed it was the cover of the National Enquirer or some other tabloid.?

Some of you might be thinking, boy, that's one heck of a commitment to dog ownership. Or I didn't sign up for this, but other owners often think about how to extend their best friend's life to the fullest.?

Many factors have contributed to extending animals' lives over the last century—better options for diet and nutrition. Premium veterinary services are available almost everywhere now—heavy investment in innovation and technology development for the animal health space. Lastly, animal pet insurance has become much more accessible and readily accepted, which helps offset those high costs and drives much higher adoption toward continuing to provide health and wellness treatments for our animals.?

As pet owners, we love our furry friends and want the best for them. However, just like humans, unexpected medical expenses can arise, quickly adding up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Over the last twenty years of animal ownership, I have been incredibly grateful to fall back on insurance policies to aid in offsetting these high costs. That's where animal health insurance from companies like? Nationwide ?comes in.

Pet insurance is still a relatively new concept for many people, but it's gaining popularity as more pet owners realize its benefits. According to the latest State of the Industry report published by the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA) in 2021,?3.45 million?pets have health insurance in the U.S. and Canada. Many friends and family ask if it is worth the monthly investment, and my answer is always a resounding yes.?

Here are just a few of the reasons why animal health insurance is worth considering:

Financial Protection

One of the most significant benefits of animal health insurance is that it provides financial protection for unexpected veterinary bills. Depending on your plan, your insurance may cover anything from routine checkups to major surgeries and everything in between, including medications and wellness products. With pet insurance, you can rest easy knowing that if your pet ever needs medical attention, you won't have to worry about the cost.

More Affordable Than You Think

Many people assume that pet insurance is expensive, but it can be affordable, especially considering the potential cost of unexpected medical bills. Nationwide, for example, offers plans starting at just $35 per month, and the cost varies depending on factors like the age and breed of your pet and the level of coverage you choose. There are also Metlife and Embrace as alternative options to price out.

Coverage for a Variety of Pets

While many people consider dogs and cats when considering pet insurance, the reality is that policies are available for various animals. Nationwide offers coverage for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and even goats, making it an excellent option for all pet owners. Our goats, Johnny, June, and Cash, all have their own policies. Now we need our alpacas, Moira, Twyla, and Stevie, to have the same options. Hint, hint, Nationwide.?

Peace of Mind

The most significant benefit of animal health insurance is the peace of mind it provides. As a pet owner, you want to provide your furry friend with the best possible care, and pet insurance can help make that possible. With insurance, you won't have to worry about choosing between your pet's health and financial stability in an unexpected illness or injury.

Animal health insurance from companies like Embrace, Metlife, and Nationwide is an excellent investment for pet owners who want to ensure their furry friends receive the best care. From financial protection to peace of mind, the benefits of pet insurance are clear.
