Fine-Tuning Feedback: The SBI-Shit Sandwich Approach - My Hands-On Experience

This special way of giving feedback doesn't work for everyone. It's like a sandwich – good stuff, criticism, then good stuff again. But here's the thing: it doesn't suit everyone's way of thinking. So, let's mix things up a bit. Combining the good parts of the sandwich idea with another method called "SBI" can make our feedback chats even better. It's like combining the best ingredients for a more helpful and friendly workplace.

  • The Power of the Feedback Sandwich: Imagine a sandwich – it starts with something good, then there's the main part (maybe not so good), and then it ends on a positive note. This method makes feedback a bit easier to take, especially for those who don't like direct criticism. It's like saying, "Hey, you're doing great, but let's chat about this one thing to make it even better."
  • The Power of SBI: Now, think about SBI like a magnifying glass. It helps us zoom in on what's really happening. "S" is for Situation, "B" is for Behavior, and "I" is for Impact. So, instead of just saying, "You did good," we can say, "In this situation, you did this, and it had this effect." It's like giving feedback with a laser focus.
  • Mixing Them Up for Better Conversations: Now, here's the cool part. We can take the good start and end from the feedback sandwich and mix it with the laser focus of SBI. It's like getting the best of both worlds. We still say positive things, but we also dive into the details using the SBI method. This mix makes our feedback talks more helpful and friendly.

Time to Make a Change: Let's start using this new and improved way of giving feedback. When we understand each other better, our workplace becomes a friendlier and more supportive space. So, let's share this idea and make our work conversations even better!

As I finish this article, I'd love to hear what you think. Everything I've shared is based on what I've learned from using these models in real situations. But, this article is not final – it's a work in progress. I really want your feedback to make it better. Let's chat and make these ideas even more useful in our work.
