You remember the days when every deal had your survival on the line. Maybe you are living them now.
When you get to the point where every deal isn't make or break, then deciding what to do often gets harder.
"Here's my offer of $900K to $2.4M", the seller said.
"So, you'd settle for $2M?", I queried.
The big problem with splitting the difference is being far too predictable and able to easily derail.
The best way to show tactical empathy is saying that you understand embarrassment and shame, as well as the desire to lash out in anger.
