Tackling Procrastination
So, today I will be sharing my reflections on a TedxTalk by Chigozie Nelson. A big thanks to Prof. Wendy Greenwood that she gave me this opportunity.
Nelson’s talk addressed the common situation of procrastination and she provided the strategies to overcome on it. Maybe a large amount of people are going through this situation. So, here are the three steps to prevent procrastination.
1.?????? Grab the opportunity: Nelson highlighted to make decisions immediately. The real-life outcome doesn’t come in an easy way. We delay the tasks thinking it would be difficult or time-consuming, and I think that the initial step to start any work or take any decision is the tough one. We hold on for the perfect moment, but it may never come. So, to get out of this, take immediate action like the Million Dollar example.

2.?????? Right Time- Right Action: Many of people face procrastination because they wait for the right time to do it, but eventually by the end of the day everything is the same as before. This type of situation is faced with every one of us and if you finally take the first step then you will come to know that it wasn’t as complicated as you thought. Nelson also shared her experience on this situation with proofreading and technical work. She was also one of them to learn but kept delaying as she was reliable on the other guy but one day she had to take help from Google and found it very easy work it was. So, taking the right action at the right time will make realize how easy the things are.
3.?????? Tomorrow never comes: In her talk, she explained how to manage or give priority to tasks before the deadline. She added the statement “ TOMORROW THE DAY WITH BIGGEST WORK LOAD EVER”. I found this statement very crucial because these few words say’s it all. In the present day we ignore the work and enjoy the moment but when the deadline is on the head, we are left with no option then regrating. She also mentioned that the extra 5 minutes we spend waiting for the best time to start work, instead of that we would have used 120 seconds to do the work. One just needs to get out of the COUCH. Get out of your comfort zone, opportunities never comes to you rather you have to grab it yourself or laugh at yourself later. “You haven’t called your mother this month but Mother’s Day is coming and social media will be filled out with I love you Mom” she added, we all are in this ring and we need to get out of it. All we have is now so why wait for the opportunity?
Nelson’s TedxTalk gave me a lot of strategies to improve myself from procrastination. From this video, I will definitely improve task management and will push myself to grab the opportunity and take the initiative steps of any task. This video not only gave me the steps to prevent procrastination but also encouraged me to be more practical in my daily life. Lastly, it was a great experience watching this video.
