Tackling Ocean plastics pollution calls for Solidarity beyond our value chain.?
In Thailand where we operate, each island and coastal area is different in terms of population, public and private infrastructures, presence of beaches for collection, management by a municipality or a National Park, or the Department of Coastal and Marine Resources (DMCR),.. But overall, we estimate that in average, only between 20 and 40% of the marine wastes come from the local communities, while 60 to 80% comes from non-domestic consumption: tourism, other regions of Thailand, and even other countries.?
All Oceans are connected globally, and this analysis on the origins of ocean plastics and its impacts on disadvantaged communities not responsible of it, calls for a concerted approach and for solidarity.?
Ocean plastics is a global issue with lack of visibility today on who is actually responsible for it. It is still unclear to many as well how and where they shall contribute to maximize their positive impact. That’s our ambition Second Life Plastics . To allow companies to engage and extend their producer responsibility, even beyond their value chain, to tackle this issue which is a threat to Marine life, Climate and Human health at a Global level.
