Tackling and Implementing change one step at a time...

During covid, together with help from friends and colleagues, Talkin' Fight was launched. To date, there have been over 1,000 episodes published, and each week we add to the catalogue of content. For the love of the sport, our show hosts provide their varied analysis of fights, deliver news daily, profile and interview many fighters (both the "young and hungry" and the well-known boxers), offer live commentary on a pre-selected bout each week, and their opinions regarding upcoming clashes, not to mention addressing issues in boxing today.

Having watched and listened to those many people involved in the industry, Talkin' Fight is preparing to take a few next steps. We have tried and tested various technologies, and published and distributed content on numerous platforms. We currently reach boxing fans in many countries around the world, and have successfully created targeted content not only in English, but also in Spanish and French. There are many boxers who need help in order to improve and enter the ring on a global level. Livestreaming and pay-per-view have helped to level the playing field.

As with all things, change comes with a cost. At the moment, there are a handful of well-financed (traditional production and distribution) companies who have strategically aligned themselves with well-known promoters and managers. There are many thousands of professional boxers who are certainly qualified to be represented, but the reality of hitting the bullseye and being signed is an equation of luck and timing... likely more of a "who you know" rather than "what you know". Each promoter and manager are limited in their ability to sign new boxers by capacity.

In days gone by, boxers would go toe-to-toe for their passion and love of the sport, oblivious to the money being generated by their time and talent. The same could be said for many sports (and numerous industries) that have happily exploited those spirited athletes unaware of the revenues being generated, perhaps solely inspired by momentary victory and glory. Television revenue, for example, changed the financial landscape for professional football, hockey, basketball and baseball players - due frankly to the implications of organized unions, guilds and/or associations.

Regarding the help mentioned above, via our new venture called SportBox, we have integrated new hardware and software that we have put in a box that we intend to deliver to gyms and trainers. Sophisticated sensor-enabled cameras will track and monitor performance, in particular movement, whether hands or feet, and offer analysis with qualified reference points that can be provided to determine "the best of the best" without relying on a subjective opinion.

Other than relying on BoxRec or other win-loss systems, in the near-term promoters and managers, at a glance, will be able to pick from among the most promising contenders and, more importantly, boxers will be compensated accordingly. Taking our technology one step beyond, SportBox will supply event organizers anywhere in the world with the ability to livestream bouts on a pay-per-view basis. Given the integrated artificial intelligence capability to follow and capture movement, which admittedly is sad news for camera operators, and terrestrial broadcasters, we believe this is the future of entertainment.

As a sidebar, our hosts look forward to obtaining sponsors for their shows, and in the mid-term being ringside and delivering their own level of expertise and knowledge of boxing, and the many participants within the squared circle. We have listened and we have learned. We're prepared to take the next step. Let's innovate together. We welcome your input.

We don’t know who discovered water, but we’re certain it wasn’t a fish.
