It's like a multi-player chess game ,everyone has their own moves, but the endgame needs to be shared. I've been in those high-stakes matches, and here's my strategy for achieving checkmate: Transparency is King, Lay all the cards on the table. Share data, insights, concerns – everything. No hidden agendas, just open dialogue. Active Listening, It's not just about talking, it's about hearing each other. I create a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their perspectives, even the dissenting ones. Focus on Shared Goals, We revisit the 'why' of the partnership. What's the ultimate objective? When everyone's aligned on the destination, the journey becomes clearer.

Pure and simple, start (and stay) focussed on interests, not positions. Interests are strategic aims, a position is how you achieve them. Openness on on interests helps collaboratively create value in partnerships - differing positions can occur due to poor communication at the start or in the process of creating a partner project. Communicate your strategic interests up front in the planning, using your openess with the partner/s to invite them to share theirs. Build trust from the start by pre-arranging check-ins to ensure each partners' interests are still being met as best possible throughout. This will offset creep in project scope and the forming of irreconcilable differences in position when strategic decision points occur.
