#TabletTuesday - L-Glutamine

After a lovely Christmas break, we are back! And this weeks #TabletTuesday and first of the year, is L-Glutamine.

Now I posted this morning a little fact about Amino Acids and that there is over 500 of them - however, only 22 of them the body needs. L-Glutamine is a really important amino acid with many functions in the body. It's a building block of protein and a critical part of the immune system. It's benefits don't stop there: it has a special role in intestinal health. L-glutamine is available in Tablet, Powder, Capsule or packet formulation within the supplement industry.

Your immune system needs it:

It is a critical fuel source for immune cells, including white blood cells and certain intestinal cells. However, its blood levels can decrease due to major injuries, burns or surgeries. If the body’s need for glutamine is greater than its ability to produce it, your body may break down protein stores, such as muscle, to release more of this amino acids.

Additionally, the function of the immune system can be compromised when insufficient amounts of glutamine are available. For these reasons,?high-protein diets, high-glutamine diets or glutamine supplements are often prescribed after major injuries like burns.

Your intestinal health needs it:

In the human body, the intestines are considered the largest portion of the immune system. This is because of the many intestinal cells with immune functions, as well as the trillions of?bacteria that live in your intestines?and impact your immune health. Glutamine is an important energy source for intestinal and immune cells.

It also helps maintain the barrier between the inside of your intestines and the rest of your body, thereby protecting against a?leaky gut.?This prevents harmful bacteria or toxins from moving from your intestines into the rest of your body. Additionally, it is important for the normal growth and maintenance of the cells in the intestine.

But it's not without it's side effects!

  1. Cough or hoarseness
  2. frequent urge to have a bowel movement
  3. straining while passing stool

Where can you get it?

I've taken 5g of the L-Glutamine in powder from Myprotein for years. I mistakenly got the unflavored and whilst the product does the job for me, I would opt for the flavoured next time - it's not the nicest to drink!

Another huge manufacturer of it is Kyowa Hakko Europe / Kyowa Hakko USA , where they supply into the Pharmaceutical, Cosmetic, Supplement and Nutrition markets. Kyowa Hakko U.S.A., Inc. is the North and South American office for KYOWA HAKKO BIO CO., LTD., an international ingredients manufacturer whose primary goal is to provide health solutions that support optimal health for improved quality of life.?

You can also find this product at Optimum Nutrition and Cytoplan Limited and Dymatize .

Let me know your thoughts!

Happy New Year 2023 !!! I am a fun of PORRIDGE ( OWSIANKA in my language)which is source of Beta-Glucans ?? which are priceless for our body health. Beta-glucans are soluble fibers that come from the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, and some plants. They might lower the risk for heart disease. Beta-glucans might prevent the body from absorbing cholesterol from food. They might also stimulate the immune system by increasing chemicals that prevent infections.
