I like talking to new people and things turn best when your interest syncs with theirs, and you both can share your stories. Stories are always amusing since we try to live within others' journey and learn from them.

What's best? In the last somewhat 40 days, I heard more than 52 different stories to tap in. Everyone had their own challenges and they wanted to overcome that for sure! I cannot express how much I am thankful to all the generous individuals I met over this period.

While, the interactions were great, there is a bigger perspective why I am writing this blog. I want to thank everyone through this blog for sure but what is more important is that, I wanted to evaluate the cases and want to understand what has been really stopping them.

First! Let us address the different cases I found people with?

• A data science/tableau enthusiast trying to build a career but doesn't know where to start
• A professional interested to switch to business intelligence domain
• A professional trying to build a tableau public portfolio
• A professional trying to advance their tableau skills

We can see that a large part of sessions included guidance related to kickstarting their tableau journey but also a good count we have for portfolio development and advancing tableau skills.

So, what are the major reasons holding them back?

The most important reason I found out was - there are no structured free materials to go with and learn Tableau. Though, we have many Youtube channels and videos through which we are gaining knowledge, I believe a good structured course to cement the foundation is really necessary. This is because at the starting line you are generally overwhelmed with loads of information out there and it is really hard to pick.

The next point comes with lack of belief and overthinking. Why I am saying so? It is because when we start believing that it is not the right time to put up our skills on the platter and start sharing. Mark my words, I found profiles with good work which are yet to be opened to the outer world and need just a bit of polish to glimmer.

The third point is totally about awareness! There is a lot in the world than you can find and where to find is the most crucial part. Even if you have been an expert, if you are not aware of your surroundings (In this case, absolutely Tableau community) the ladder to reach heights is sometimes a combination of small ones.

Was the Tableau Buddy program effective enough to help them?

Indeed, though every use-case was unique in its own nature, my way of helping them was to understand their current situation and the objective they have in mind. With these points, I was able to create a roadmap for them to follow.

Though every roadmap was personalised, I tried to share all my learnings and information along with the stated points so that they can be followed with ease.

Still, is it worth spending your time over a one-on-one discussion?

I still ask myself this question but the level of satisfaction I received from the participants has been astounding.

These words have been something that is keeping me charged and fuelled up! I believe even if I have been able to ignite some spark or show you a bumpy but achievable roadmap, I bet this is one of my greatest achievements so far.
