Systems Admin Appreciation Day
Finally a day for the heroes of IT! Friday (July 27, 2018) is national Systems Administrator Appreciation Day. This is finally your opportunity to say, “thanks for and keeping my computer working so well, and giving me less and less opportunities to offer excuses to my boss about why I can’t work the rest of the day” It’s a love-hate relationship, I know.
So, What is a Systems Administrator (SA) anyway?
In short, it’s the bridge between the IT Engineering team (the team who builds the networks and servers we work from), and the people working on the computers (you guys). They’re the ambulance that shows up after 911 was called for a heart attack, only to find out it was only a spider who scared someone but no harm was done. They’re there to triage troubles, and give early warning to the Engineering team for problems that may be affecting a large number of users, or a user who’s having an ongoing problem.
SA’s are some of the best detectives this world has ever seen, mostly because “My computer’s broken” is an extremely vague term, that could literally mean anything. So most of our work is spent investigating the who/what/why/when/and where until we finally understand how there’s a fist punched through your laptop screen.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we’re hired to help both the IT teams and the end users. So reach out to us, give us a call, stop by the desk, or go into that dark wet basement where they normally put IT! Please don’t open the door too fast, allow our eyes the opportunity to adjust to the light we haven’t seen in months…. And just say Hi! Help us put faces to our problem children.
