Systematic Racism a barrier to help for Indigenous drug users!!
The social safety net that our governments have used taxpayer dollars to prop up for decades has always been inflicted by racism - this systematic racism is not the fault of our governments 100 percent alone!!
We are all to blame for this and we continue to play an active role in producing these racist practices - ALL BEGINS AND END WITH THE BS WE BELIEVE AND PUSH FROM ONE GENERATION TO ANOTHER.
The technical or correct terminology is called inherited sub-conscious bias - AND WE HAVE FORMED THESE BS (belief systems,) based on what others have told us for the majority of our lives, from childhood to adulthood.
Unfortunately, we continue to believe this BS others have passed on to us from generations of our families - until we experience something that makes us question that Belief System.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nel Wieman released figures last week that 254 First Nations People died from toxic drugs in 2020, that is nearly a 120 percent increase from the previous year.
Those numbers represent 15 percent of all toxic drug deaths in the province of British Columbia, even though Frist Nations People only represent 3.3 percent of the general population.
THE NEWS OF THE BODIES OF 215 FRIST NATIONS CHILDREN IN A MASS GRAVE AT A FORMER INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL IS AN EXAMPLE OF GENERATIONAL TRAUMA THESE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO FACE.
THIS NEWS HAS REAWAKENED TRAUMAS FOR MANY AND WILL ALSO HAVE A DIRECT EFFECT ON THE NEXT GENERATION OF THEIR LOVED ONES.
WHEN A SON, DAUGHTER, GRANDCHILD WITNESSES INCREASED ISOLATION AND WITHDRAWAL OR HIGHER LEVELS OF SUBSTANCE USE FOR EXAMPLE - THIS EFFECTS THEIR MENTAL HEALTH AS WELL.
WE HAVE FAILED FOR GENERATIONS FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE OF CANADA - BUT IT IS NOT TO LATE TO SAVE THE NEXT GENERATION!!
