#Syria10

Tomorrow, 16 March 2021, the Graduate Institute holds the online event "A decade of war in Syria: What have humanitarian agencies learned?" with Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General and emergency relief coordinator, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Many thanks to photographer Matthias Bruggmann for letting us publish his work. Of this scene suspended in time, taken in Haas, Reff Idlib, Syria, on 1 May 2014, Bruggmann states: "these children are watching an airstrike on Shinshirah, one of the "dead cities" UNESCO world heritage site."

This photograph is part of the book "An Act of Unspeakable Violence" by Xavier Barral publishing.
