SYNTHEMA Milestones of Progress
Join us on a journey through SYNTHEMA's groundbreaking progress! Our mission is to dismantle data silos by developing a cross-border hub using AI for synthetic data generation in rare hematological diseases.
Consortium Meeting M18 Updates
The SYNTHEMA project consortium gathered in Bologna on May 28 and 29, 2024, to discuss pivotal advancements and future steps. This meeting, featuring representatives from various work packages (WPs), revolved around four crucial themes: data sets, platform development, security and privacy, and synthetic data.
WP1 provided an exciting update on the creation of the first SCD database in Europe, with the AML database set to become a central European registry for both retrospective and prospective data. This marks a significant milestone in the project's efforts to develop comprehensive and reliable data resources.
WP2 reported progress in platform design and development, reflecting a collaborative effort with WP3. This synergy is crucial for advancing models, differential privacy (DP), and secure multi-party computation (SMPC). Although specific details remain under wraps, the partnership between WP2 and WP3 is expected to drive significant innovation in these areas.
WP4’s focus is on validation, particularly the standardization of synthetic data. They have engaged legal expertise to navigate the complex implications of synthetic data generation. Their mandate includes identifying clinical data domains for validation, defining pertinent research questions, and creating a robust framework for synthetic data evaluation. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the reliability and practical utility of synthetic data in clinical settings.
WP5 introduced their framework, known as The 5S: Safe Projects, Safe People, Safe Settings, Safe Data, and Safe Outputs. This framework emphasizes a holistic approach to data security and ethical considerations, ensuring that all aspects of data handling and usage meet stringent safety and ethical standards.
Overall, the Bologna meeting highlighted significant progress across various facets of the SYNTHEMA project, setting the stage for further innovations and achievements in the realm of synthetic data and its applications.
