Synchronized Planning (SAP IBP Order Based Planning and PP/DS) with Real Time Integration (RTI)

What is Synchronized Planning?

Synchronized Planning is manifold, but here the focus is synchronizing planning across SAP IBP's Order based planning module, which is a network planning solution with S/4HANA PP/DS, which is more factory/plant focused planning solution using Real-Time Integration.?This is not only about Process integration but also about UI Integration. Going forward, Planner Workspace app in SAP IBP will be the common interface for seamless working across SAP IBP and S/4 HANA PPDS in the future.

With IBP 2205 release, we are able to connect SAP IBP Order Based Planning and S/4 HANA embedded PP/DS using Real Time Integration. Before it was only possible with Smart Data Integration (SDI) which was Batch integration.

How does it work - Process Perspective?

We have operational Supply Planning which is the network centric planning, happening in the IBP and then passing over the plan to PP/DS which is more plant focussed optimization. The idea with synchronized planning is to delegate detailed production planning processes to PP/DS and integrate tightly with IBP Order Based Planning using Real-Time Integration.?Once the rough cut is done in IBP Order Based Planning, the plan is transferred to PP/DS for detailed planning in plants and then we can deploy the plan from the factory to the distribution chain, which is deployment and will soon have TLB as a next step process in future.?

With this new feature in 2205, we have SAP IBP Order based planning which is connected to S4HANA which is connected to ePPDS with CIF technically.?

Integration Modes:

SAP is offering different integration modes to integrate IBP with PP/DS for the division of labour between SAP order based planning and PP/DS. Integration modes can vary w.r.t material types, sourcing decisions etc.?

Example: Integration Mode - Detailed Scheduling Delegated for Finished goods in plants

IBP can plan for finished goods and then send the plan to PP/DS for detailed scheduling. It has already been available since 2020 with SDI.

SAP offers more integration modes like Short-term production planning and Detailed Scheduling Delegated, where we allow PP/DS to also alter the plans in short term from SAP IBP Order Based Planning and plan production on its own. Then there is another mode called, Displayed in Detailed Planning and Scheduling, which is more applicable for purchase items. In this one, we plan the purchase items in IBP and in PP/DS we can only view not change anything. These were all available in past, what's new is these are all available with Real-Time Integration.

In a nutshell, with SAP S/4 HANA 2021, ePP/DS?will be real time integrated with order based planning. This means the following:- If you publish something in PP/DS it will go to ERP (PP/MM/SD) real time and the same will be sent to SAP IBP real time. With this 2 stage planning process we leverage the capabilities of both IBP and PP/DS to generate a robust plan to withstand the risks and uncertainties involved in the supply chain.?
