SYMPTOM OR ROOT CAUSE

SYMPTOM OR ROOT CAUSE

What are we really focusing on when we want to cure our problems?

Do we just focus on the symptoms we’re experiencing, address those and hope to get better forever? Only to realize those symptoms continue to return and the problem has never been solved. Or do we put in the extra work to find the cause of our problems and what is truly responsible for the ailments? This isn’t an easy road but it can be the one that gets us to the final and full solution and cure.

This is relevant to us in many aspects of our lives.

In the medical realm when we seek the help from a doctor who gives us 2 minutes of time, a bunch of prescriptions and sends us on our way, only for us to feel like we were in a tornado and have more questions than we did when we came in, it becomes highly relevant.

In relationships, when your significant other treats you badly, and you continue to forgive them because they give you a gift, that cycle continues and it’s relevant again.

Or at work when your boss asks you to do something extra which requires you to stay late, regularly, even though you don’t get paid overtime and they make it up to you by taking you out to lunch a few times, relevancy comes up here too.

Issues occur, we address symptoms at the surface and then what? The cycle of issues to symptom treating occurs. Never to truly address the problem. Why have we gotten into this mess? How come our society focuses on the symptoms and not getting to the root cause? It's because it's easy, it's easy for everyone involved and the quick fix, the relief of feeling like the problem is solved is great, however when the problem arises again, it doesn't feel great. And we all know that if we just treat symptoms, it's a temporary fix. The permanent fix takes time and effort.

How come our society focuses on the symptoms and not getting to the root cause?

So what do we do to truly fix our problems? We have to have an intention to get to the root of our problems, make a determination to stick with it and do everything we can to seek answers and be open to advice that is helpful but we may not want to hear.

Most often you may not just put in the effort to find out the cause and ways to solve your problems but the effort comes in the solution, what we all have to do to break the cycle of addressing symptoms and addressing the cause, to never have the problem again. Nothing of what I'm proposing is meant to be easy as our chronic problems haven't been easy to solve thus far but to be happier and healthier, we have to be honest with ourselves. How often do we truly aim to treat the cause, how often do we just want the quick fix? Honesty and intention will help you find your solution.

Nothing of what I'm proposing is meant to be easy as our chronic problems haven't been easy to solve thus far but to be happier and healthier, we have to be honest with ourselves.

Ask the right questions of yourself and others, demand answers in relationships, learn about people's intentions, understand the way people can help and be open to that. Put in the effort, put in the work, make some sacrifices, stand up for yourself and listen to your gut. Be absolutely honest with yourself and if you're holding on to your problems for a reason and if you want to truly alleviate your problems, make it non-negotiable. You are worth a happy and healthy life experience and learning lessons along the way and finding true solutions to your problems rather than symptom treating.
