"London Marathon: Nurse says she's denied record for not wearing a dress"
This article is a very simple example of the relationship between history and innovation.
There are things that take place and they are noted in our history as the ‘way we’ve done things’.
Then someone comes along and challenges the status quo, usually with a question of ‘but why?’ to start.
People react in a variety of ways. Some in support of the change, many indifferent, and some in opposition to any change because it has been just fine the way it is, why do we need to change?
In this case, the nurse marathon runner is making a point and I commend her for it.
I’ve only worn scrubs as a nurse in bedside practice.
I hope that her win is twofold here:
1. The fastest nurse marathon runner
and most importantly...
2. An increased public awareness of modern day bedside nursing attire.
Innovation is all about making history, new history, for us all to challenge again at some point in the future.
