Sydney’s hottest arts and cultural hub – Walsh Bay Arts Precinct

The Walsh Bay Arts Precinct sits on two historic piers and now offers a diverse program of events year-round.?You can enjoy musical concerts, dance and theatre performances and workshops, classes, and public events. It is a place where world-class artists create, perform, and share their work.?

Currently the Precinct is glowing (literally) with British sculptor Michael Shaw’s exhibition Hi-Vis at Sydney Festival .

The installation is inspired by the shapes of bee abdomens, lungs, intestines and algae and measures 46-metres long. The neon colours shine bright against the harbour’s waters, after which they emerge against the nighttime scenery, glowing in the dark.?

We caught up with Walsh Bay Arts Precinct Manager Heather Clarke GAICD who gave us backstage access to the hottest place to be in Sydney this summer.??

Aside from the amazing location and view, what do you think makes the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct so unique???

Having so many arts companies in one location. As a place which is both creating and delivering art, we have many artists, creatives and technicians visiting and working on site.?

What's it been like having the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct serve as the 2024 Sydney Festival hub???

The Precinct has been a hive of activity all of January. It's been fantastic to come to the Moonshine Bar both before and after performances to meet with others and talk about the shows we have seen.?

How long did it take Hi-Vis to come together at the Precinct???

It only took three days to set up but many months in the planning!

Beyond the Sydney Festival, what other exciting initiatives are planned for the Precinct in 2024???

The next public exhibition is SHAPE by the NSW Educations Standard Authority.?

The Shape exhibition features a selection of students’ exemplary 2023 HSC major projects from Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design.?

This is the first year outside of Powerhouse Museum: SHAPE | NSW Government?

What's been the highlight of your time working with the Precinct to date???

The arts community is continuing to grow here at the Precinct and the diverse offering of programs on offer. You can run into many artists just having a coffee at Sydney Dance Café or lunch at Sydney Theatre Company’s The Bar At the End Of The Wharf.?

The magnificent harbourside Walsh Bay Arts Precinct will be a dazzling summer playground of performance, art, bars and good vibes when the Sydney Festival takes over until 28 January. Be sure to check it out!??
