The Sydney Recruitment World Cup is DONE! And we raised $15k for kids in foster care!

Once again, the recruitment industry delivered on all fronts, this time, at the inaugural Sydney Recruitment World Cup on Friday.
Over the past two weeks, 17 hours of "the beautiful game" was played between Australian recruitment firms all eager to claim the title "Recruitment Football Champions", and in doing so, 131 Recruiters have ran out on the not so hallowed polished floorboards of indoor futsal centres in Melbourne and Sydney, 293 goals have been headed, toe-punted, volleyed and slammed in, 724 recruitment man hours have been spent on the pitch chasing football glory instead of sitting at a desk... And most impressively of all, over $15000 Australian Dollars have been raised for kids in foster care.
That's $15000 that will be spent helping the (close to) 20,000 foster children that spend the night in foster care every single night across Melbourne and Sydney.
Quite simply, the recruitment industry should be beyond proud for donating it's time, it's energy, it's people, it's money and it's spirit.
But hey, too heavy too early? Fair enough! Let's get back to the football!
Let me introduce the ten teams of warriors who battled it out on Friday 6th of July, at the KGV Recreation Centre at The Rocks, in Sydney.
TEAM CGC:
Looking like Juventus, and playing like Juventus, CGC meant business from the outset. With a very solid group game campaign, they breezed into the semis with 3 wins and 1 draw.
TEAM SIX DEGREES:
There wasn't quite six degrees of seperation between the men in green and group qualification, but there was a couple. One draw, one win, and two losses wasnt quite enough to get them through to the semis. But valiant effort regardless.
TEAM CONSTRUCTIVE:
When a team turns up, not only in team sponsored shirts, but also with their names on the back, you know they're going to be handy. And Constructive were very handy, banging in 26 goals across their four group games, and cruised through to the semis.
TEAM T+O+M:
T+O+M did better than their early comments would have suggested ("Pete, you didn't tell us that these other teams could actually play football!" and "When does the Recruitment RUGBY World Cup happen?") But there's were all very closely contested games. But sadly, only one win in the group stages. Not enough to progress past the group stages.
TEAM CHARTERHOUSE:
We always knew Charterhouse were going to be contenders, mainly because they told me! And they were! They probably made their lives a little bit harder than they wanted to, but two wins in the group games pulled them through to the semi-final.
TEAM SIRIUS PEOPLE:
Let's focus on the positives here. Sirius People definely had the nicest strips! And they definitely scored one goal. Plus, their contribution to the day went way beyond just football. More on Sirius People later...
TEAM ETHOS BEATHCHAPMAN:
Ethos BeathChapman, averaging about 8 foot tall each players, did very well in their group stages, winning 3 of their 4 games. A comprehensive campaign that secured the man-mountains a spot in the semi-finals.
TEAM PRECISION SOURCING:
I think Precision feel they coud have done better, and even brought their own Southgate-inspired, waist-coated Manager to ensure full tactical competency. But despite some very solid goal-keeping from Joel Stein, their two wins in the group stages didn't quite get them over the line. Came close to qulaifying though.
TEAM BLUEFIN:
Bluefin Sydney were here to restore the national pride in the Bluefin name, after Bluefin Melbourne failed to qualify last week, but despite an early draw, and Paul Turnell's maverick Columbian goalkeeping antics, it was sadly a similar story for the NSW branch.
TEAM SUSTAINABILITY:
In Captain M.O.D's eyes, their tournament was a resounding success, in that they won one game, and he scored one goal. That's all he wanted, and that's all he got! But it was enough to send him home with a content and victorious smile on his face. Encapsulating the spirit of the day!
And, here's some (well focused) action shots of the day...
PITCH ONE: SEMI-FINAL: CGC V ETHOS BEATHCHAPMAN: ETHOS BEATHCHAPMAN RUNNING OUT WINNERS...
PITCH TWO: SEMI-FINAL: CHARTERHOUSE V CONSTRUCTIVE: CONSTRUCTIVE TAKING THE VICTORY AND REACHING THE FINAL...
INTO THE FINAL... ETHOS BEATHCHAPMAN V CONSTRUCTIVE!
In the end, the mighty Constructive were just too strong, too organised, and too bloody good! Ethos BeathChapman put up a determined effort, but Constructive ran away as the the Sydney Recruitment World Cup WINNERS, with a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
Onto the cup presentations...
"THE MOST GIVING TEAM" who raised the greatest amount of team and sponsored donations was...
...SIRIUS PEOPLE who raised well over $2500 in the wash up! Staggeringly generous! And this is Peter Wyld collecting the "Most Giving" trophy on behalf of Sirius!
"PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT" as voted by his own team, was No 14 for Constructive, ASHLEY SOMERS. (Think he scored 50+ goals)…
And finally, here are your 2018 Sydney RECRUITMENT WORLD CUP WINNERS...
CONSTRUCTIVE RECRUITMENT...
In wrapping up, I'd like to thank (one more time) all the players who donated their time and energy, all the recruitment leaders (who gave their staff the afternoon off work), everybody who donated their hard earned money, and OzChild, for allowing the recruitment industry the opportunity to show that we know how to give back!
Constructive brought it home! JUST LIKE ENGLAND IS GOING TO!
