Since our establishment in 2020, Sydney Community Group (SCG) has been dedicated to enhancing the well-being and unity of Sydney’s diverse communities. Our mission is rooted in compassion, focusing on addressing the complex challenges faced by the homeless in our city through holistic and inclusive initiatives.
SCG’s services include food banks, clothing distribution, shelter support, and educational programs—reflecting our commitment to comprehensive community care. Our efforts extend across a spectrum of communities, embracing inclusivity and cultural sensitivity as we work to build a more just and equitable society.

SIMBA – Multicultural Awards 2025: Nominate Now!
We are excited to announce the upcoming SIMBA – Multicultural Awards 2025, scheduled for 11th April 2025. The SIMBA Awards will bring together community members from all backgrounds to celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations making a difference in multicultural unity, innovation, and social impact.
Nomination categories are now open for individuals and organisations who have demonstrated outstanding contributions across various fields.

Diwali Festival 2024: Uniting Culture, Tradition, and Community Spirit
On 28th October 2024, SCG hosted its largest Diwali Festival to date, bringing together over 500 community members at The Grand Pavilion, Parramatta. Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a time for celebration, joy, and reflection. This event provided the perfect opportunity for our community to come together under these themes.?
The festival began with the ceremonial lighting of lamps, symbolising hope and renewal. Attendees also enjoyed a range of authentic Indian dishes, from savoury snacks to festive sweets, all prepared with the warmth and hospitality that Diwali represents.?
Not only was the event a vibrant cultural celebration, but it also served as a significant fundraiser for SCG’s community programs. These include initiatives focused on housing stability, social inclusion, and empowerment for those in need.
SCG Innovations for National Homelessness Week?
In honour of National Homelessness Week (August 2024), SCG hosted a series of awareness events aimed at highlighting homelessness issues and advocating for systemic change. These efforts helped shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing housing instability.?
To kick off the week, SCG, in collaboration with Hornsby Shire Community and various partners, presented the 2nd Edition of SpaceWalk-2—the most anticipated event in Sydney, marking the start of our Homelessness Week observance. The event featured informative panels, expert discussions, and a call to action, with donations supporting local housing stability programs.?
We are grateful for the community's response in standing in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness.?
SAFAL Fest: Celebrating South Asia’s Rich Cultural Diversity
SCG proudly participated in SAFAL Fest 2024, an annual celebration of South Asian arts, culture, and literature hosted by the Australian South Asia Forum Inc. (ASAF).
This festival honoured the rich heritage of South Asia’s eight nations—India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, the Maldives, and Afghanistan.
At the event, SCG’s CEO, Manjula Viswanath, highlighted SCG’s commitment to community engagement and cultural enrichment. SAFAL Fest provided a vibrant platform for SCG to connect with South Asian communities in Australia, fostering unity and celebrating shared heritage.

SCG Attends AIM Talent Awards and WSABE
SCG recently attended the AIM Talent Awards and the Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence (WSABE), two prestigious events that celebrate outstanding achievements across a variety of sectors, from performing arts to business. These inspiring ceremonies recognised the dedication, creativity, and impact of individuals and organisations within our communities.
We would like to extend our congratulations to all the finalists and winners for their remarkable achievements. Special thanks to Oz Arab Media, the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce, and their teams for hosting such impactful events. These awards have become essential platforms for fostering innovation, recognising excellence, and driving positive change in the community.
SCG is proud to be a part of this vibrant community and looks forward to supporting future events that celebrate diversity, achievement, and collaboration.
SCG’s SpaceWalk-2: A Celebration of Culture, Creativity, and Community Support
On 27th July 2024, SCG hosted the successful SpaceWalk-2, a dynamic celebration of culture, creativity, and community service.
The event marked the beginning of Homelessness Week 2024 and was designed to support Hills Community Aid, raising funds and awareness for homelessness—an issue close to our hearts.
SpaceWalk-2 featured a variety of activities and performances, from fashion shows and dance to live music and delicious food. Attendees explored diverse stalls, with all proceeds going to support homelessness initiatives. The event demonstrated the power of community coming together to support those in need.
A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, and attendees who made this event a success. Your support is helping to make a lasting, positive impact on the community.
