Sydney Build 2016 Expo worth visiting

Senior Lecturer in Construction at Western Sydney University Phil Love and I have just spent a fascinating day at the Sydney Build 2016 Expo. We recommend Construction industry clients should get along and see what's new. Designers and Constructors who have an eye for the future will all find something of interest.                                                    Can't believe how fast some of constructions technologies are evolving.

Interesting conversations with CSR on new lightweight cladding systems, Peikko Group, Rothoblaas, Speedfloor, Cerberus, Permasteel, Powerhouse Homes and Speedpanel all showing new developments in building assembly methods. Solid Support, Premier Australia, Urbanactive and BuildingPoint showing latest in construction support systems. Great that experienced practitioners were on hand who could answer technical questions and discuss examples of applications. Permasteel's App to show locations of their projects world wide and details of systems used shows how social media in now such an essential part of a constructor's marketing kit. Industry online construction catalogue leader Bookmarkonline also added to a strong lineup of specialist vendors.

The MBA, CIOB and AIB were on hand to share their latest industry insights as was a busy team of speakers who presented on a wide range of instructive developments in their organisation. Laura Durkan, Head of  HR at Richard Crooks was there to share her insights on a modern construction industry.

Sydney Build 2016 is well organised free event. Phil Love and I have have scheduled a number of follow up meetings with most of the above exhibitors to discuss how their products may assist in future undergraduate construction programs. We were impressed at the willingness of these exhibitors to openly share technologies and help with the development of tomorrow's Constructors and to collaborate with others with a stake in Modern Construction.

Readers should note that this is a spontaneous post that simply followed our visit and the information we took away. Neither of us have any relationship with the event organiser and except for very dubious piece of timber called a 'Grilling Plank' (value $5 est.) form Urbanline, we received no other inducement. I am still keen to try out my new salmon smoking plank when next we barbecue.

Well done Sydney Build 2016.

Phil and David - School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, Western Sydney University.

It was great speaking with you today David. The industry needs thought leaders such as yourself to drive innovation, and create the construction industry of tomorrow.
