STRENGTH: Developing Stronger Supplier Relationships:
Finding the organization's strengths in connection to its procurement department is the first step in incorporating SWOT analysis. This involves assessing internal resources like qualified procurement staff, effective procedures, or established supplier relationships. 1 年Full disclosure; I am not a fan of SWOT. It is a great tool to engage stakeholders in creating eye candy. It is a truly awful tool in making choices, guiding decisions or supporting strategy development. The reason is the second phase. The first phase (the fun phase) is when the team develop content and locate each element of content in the appropriate quadrant. Then there's a pause. "Is it time for tea?" "Yes, I think there are some cupcakes!" <<Tea is taken>> "OK, now to review what we've done and develop some plans!" (The second phase) <<Longer pause>> "We should leverage our strengths to take advantage of the opportunities and create pragmatic plans to mitigate the threats!" "But lack of capacity is one of our weaknesses. We don't have the bandwidth!" "And most of the threats require decisions that are above our pay grade!" "And lack of influence with senior leaders is one of our weaknesses! "OK, I'll write up the session and syndicate it for feedback. Let me know any ideas that come to you then... I think there are still some cupcakes left!..." "Mmm, cupcakes!"
