Swiss man, the cause, the journey & the kit.

DREAM IT

A couple of weeks ago we got contacted by Steven Hall on his personal journey and goals, and we thought we would share his story:

"I am an ordinary bloke, but managed to get a ballot entry for the Swiss man Extreme Triathlon taking part in Switzerland on 24 June. This Triathlon forms part of the Extreme series...and as the name suggests, is no ordinary Triathlon.?It is a full ironman distance, 3.8km swim, 180km?bike and 42.2km run. The swim is in a lake, but the bike sees the athletes going over 3 swiss Alpine passes (Gothard, Furka and Grimsel)...with a total elevation climb of 3850m of climbing.?The bike leg alone will take me around 11 hours.?Weather on Furka pass last week was in the minuses. This week low single digits, so I really hope it warms a little before then.

?The run also has an elevation of 2000m (twice that of Table Mountain)...and a 1000m of that happens in the last 8km. If I can make the run cut offs, I imagine the event will take me close on 22 hours.

?So what makes this event special? I am doing this for "more than myself"...and am raising funds for the The Children's Hospital Trust which funds projects in the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital . I also came off the couch...had a knee op 2 days before the entry was allocated to me. (There are only 250 athletes that get to take part in the event. Half of them have to be Swiss. The rest are from all around the world.?I am the only South African)"

CUSTOM KIT

From here our design team at CIOVITA took up the journey with Steven to create his custom kit, as Steven explains:

"So enter the story of my kit.?I think Annemarie Kemp absolutely nailed it.?The obvious Swiss/SA flags.?Not just the countries represented – but also because my support team are best mates of mine who I grew up with. They are Swiss – and are now living in Switzerland – so its really one of the reasons I chose this race.?The mountains on the kit are that of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch which will be seen in the backdrop when I finish the race.?The name on the back are those who had either made a donation toward the The Children's Hospital Trust or actually bought one of the tops at the time of finalisation.?They had my back – and will also be on my back for the adventure.?Then the obvious Childrens Trust logo -?the real reason for the event – and the ultimate champion in this story, for the great work that they continue to do. So the kit is a story in itself – and something that is meaningful to me. I will definitely have to dig into this when I reach those dark places on the day"
