12 Lessons from Living in Switzerland for 12 Months
"Decluttered surroundings, Declutters mind"
2. ??? Switzerland is Safe: I’ve felt secure walking anywhere, anytime—even late in Geneva or Zurich. Though guns are legal in Switzerland, but the laws surrounding gun ownership are quite strict and regulated.
Reduces anxiousness of getting your stuff stolen
3. ??? Health is a Lifestyle: Everyone’s out hiking, skiing, or staying active through sports. Health isn’t just a choice; it’s a way of life here (lifestyle), and I’ve learned to prioritize it every day.
4. ?? Learn to Cook: Eating out in swiss is really pricey, so I had to learn to cook. It saves money, is healthier, and honestly, it’s been empowering to prepare my own meals with the taste I like.
5. ?? Neutrality Pays Off: Switzerland stays out of conflicts and focuses on peace. It’s a reminder to choose our battles carefully and prioritize what truly matters.
6. ?? Direct Democracy Works: The fact that citizens get to vote on nearly everything through referendums blows my mind. It shows how much trust and honesty are woven into this society.

7. ?? Small but Powerful: It’s easy to overlook Switzerland because of its size, but they’ve mastered industries like watches, pharma, chocolates, and engineering. Big impact, even for a small country.
8. ?? Money is Convenience: Swiss people aren't just focused on getting rich—they use money to make life easier, more comfortable, and less stressful. What stands out is how money is often kept private and discreet here, rather than flaunted. It’s a smart, understated approach to financial well-being, prioritizing stability and long-term comfort over outward displays of wealth.
9. ??? Languages Open Doors: Four official languages, yet no one forces you to speak one over another. I’m learning how powerful diversity in communication can be.
10. ? Swiss Trains/Trams/Buses Run on Time: Being punctual is part of the culture. The trains are always on time, and it has made me appreciate the value of efficiency and respect for time.
11. ??♂? Balance is Key: There’s a strong focus on work-life balance. People here prioritize family, leisure, and outdoor activities just as much as work. It's a reminder that life is more than just a job. Sundays are mostly for family-time at home.
12. ?? Privacy is Sacred: The Swiss take privacy seriously—both professionally and personally. It’s taught me the importance of setting boundaries and respecting others' spaces.
Also, I believe the mandatory military service in Swiss has built disciplined, honest, and safe society.
Thanks to my current role, job, colleagues, and new friends, I’ve been able to enjoy the beauty of Switzerland????and learn from it. Hoping for more beautiful memories, achievements and lessons in the year 2025!!!
