Swiss FinOps Meetup #2

We recently convened for our second Swiss FinOps Meetup at Takeda's office. The session commenced with Erik Marke unveiling some pivotal insights from FinOpsX, emphasising the significance of fostering connections within the FinOps community. This gathering was an excellent platform for nurturing the emerging discipline and its cultural tenets. We're optimistic that many of us will have the chance to participate in FinOpsX in Barcelona from Nov 11-14, 2024.

STMicroelectronics, while not necessarily a name that resonates in every household, is integral to our daily lives with its chips and microcontrollers. Pierre-Emmanuel Nuiry elucidated the FinOps best practices at his workplace, captivating the attendees. The depth of the discussion and the volley of questions underscored the keen interest in adapting some of these best practices. Their FinOps team provided me with some new and unique ideas and techniques.

On another intriguing note, George Arezina and Peter Schmidhofer delved into the synergy between FinOps and ITAM/SAM, a sphere of software and licensing often overlooked by cloud novices. They highlighted the essence of factoring in software to realise unit economy and how ITAM is crucial in bolstering FinOps.

The meetup concluded with a delightful apéro and refreshing beers at Stars and Stripes. The ambience facilitated stimulating and purposeful conversations. Our second Swiss FinOps Meetup was undeniably memorable, and we eagerly anticipate future events. We're also seeking enthusiastic presenters and practitioners to host subsequent meetup sessions.
