Swipe Right for New Relationships
In this passage called life we meet so many, we hold on to very few and yet we continue swiping, seeking and wanting a ‘connected life’ that continuously auto refreshes.
Whether it is left or right, all of us are “tindering” in some form or the other. And the best part is that the current world we live in, offers immense opportunities to do that. Perhaps these are signs of a new world order.
Not sure, but definitely a signal that our world will not and is not confined by those we know or what we know today. It is a world that is ready to embrace new relationships, accept alternate perspectives and rejoice the spirit of living. Especially if it comes with the fresh energy of the younger gen that we are fortunate to be tagged with.
And there is a reason why I ponder along these lines.
At CallHealth, we just onboarded a bunch of twenty management trainees who have recently “friended’ us at work. A diverse lot, they have come from different corners of India with a singular purpose. Build a better healthcare system for the world.
I see them blending in effortlessly and seamlessly filling in the ‘Big shoes’ of our expectations. I am amazed at how the typical mind blocks of pedigree, culture, geographies and specializations are easily unshackled. All that seems to be of consequence is the undiluted raw passion they bring for achieving the seemingly difficult organizational goals.
Settling into their temporary PG rooms, they have with them a suitcase full of dreams and expectations. Starry eyed ? Clearly they are not- they seem a much more matured lot (definitely much, much more than how I was when I walked in as a MT in my career), but yes they have the sparkle to absorb everything they see and experience, as they open this new page in their young lives.
Young lives that carry a bruise or two - of the emotional strings that they have left behind, just so that they can do what they have set out to achieve!
Organizations could make the mistake of treating them as just one more headcount and a pair of hands and legs. Or see them as the critical spark for creativity - one that could engulf the imagination and flame our success. What they need is unadulterated and focused mentoring time – a guidance that can shape dreams into goals, anchors who can help them bridge and build relationships and most importantly help them build their ‘best friends’ at work.
Permanence in a role is not a promise I have personally ever made, but a sympathetic and receptive ear is a given. Chances are very minimal that anyone of us aspire to retire in the same company where we start our career. Because swiping relationships – with people or workplaces, is a given ! But while in a relationship, bring your true self (to work), stay committed (on what you do) and find the spirit to fly in tandem with others. This would mean being graceful in accepting ignorance and unshackling the mind to see new perspectives. The initial years will help prepare us best for the real and more demanding life that is bound to come our way.
Not all colleges truly prepare us for what we face at work and there is certainly no ONE WAY to do it. There is no right, no wrong. Choose a path and make it the right one !
At CallHealth, I am quite convinced that we have the right clicks and am excited as always!
