Swim Across America 2023, Nashville Edition
Last year, my daughter Alyssa packed up and went away to college at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville . Upon arriving there, she searched to see if there was a nearby Swim Across America event that she could participate in, as it has been a passion of hers for over a decade. Learning that there had previously been a swim in Nashville but was now dormant, she took the initiative to re-launch that event and become co-director of the event. She is back at it again-- for her 13th year and for the second year in Nashville-- and would be grateful for any support that you might be willing to provide, from a kind word of encouragement to a generous donation. Below is her appeal, in her own words:
Friends and Family,
It's that time of year again! I have registered for Swim Across America year 13 and am excited to be working on year 2 of SAA Nashville. This year Michael would be celebrating his 17th birthday, he would be driving, beginning to look at colleges, and surely playing some sport. There isn’t a day I don’t think about him.?
Thank you to those of you who have already donated. I have already raised $9,197, 70% of my goal! Our swim has already raised $37,046, we are at 49%, ahead of where we were at this time last year. Again this year, I have been tasked with creating a slideshow of photos of those who we are honoring and remembering by swimming. If you would like to send a photo of your friends or loved ones who have been diagnosed with cancer, I will include them in the slideshow so we may honor them on Saturday.?
Swim Across America Nashville will be held on April 16, 2023, at the Ensworth Natatorium.
Last year we surpassed our goal of $50,000 raising almost $60,000.
Once again, we will be benefitting the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, the #1 cancer center in Tennessee. We are hoping to have an even bigger impact and have set our goal at $75,000 this year.

My goal this year is to raise $13,000 to raise my 13-year total to $170,000 in honor of Michael’s 17th birthday.?
I swim for my brother Michael, Uncle Michael, and my Great Aunt Alison who have lost their battles with cancer, and for my Great Uncle Pat and Garrett Brown who are currently fighting cancer. I also swim to honor Dr. Robert Arceci, Michael’s oncologist at Hopkins. Michael was only 9 months old when he lost his fight with cancer, mixed lineage leukemia. His battle inspires me every day.?
I am asking for your continued support in raising money to fund groundbreaking cancer research and clinical trials. Whether you swim, donate, or volunteer, you are helping to make a difference and save the lives of current and future cancer patients. I want to do everything I can so other families won’t go through what my family and I have gone through.

Thank you for your consideration,
