The Swift Lift

The Swift Lift

I was recently watching the Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix and they talked about the “Swift Lift.” Evidently, when Taylor started taking a stance in politics, a bunch of Swift fans signed up to vote and the press started calling it the “Swift Lift.”

On the documentary they mentioned that 51,000 plus new voters signed up to vote in the Tennessee elections that year because Taylor had voiced her opinion and asked for help.

Well, it was 2 o’clock in the morning and I couldn’t sleep but I said to myself “Damn. Wouldn’t it be cool if every day people could have that kind of influence?”

Guess what? We kinda do.

Let me ask you this. How many times when you were younger did your mom say to you: “If Joey jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?” OK, ok, insert the name of whomever it was that your mom mentioned. It was at least a few times, right?

What about this one? “Mom, everybody has Nikes, a Walkman, a cell phone, a Razor, a BMW, or whatever. I need one too!” But why? Because you were influenced to do the same things your friends did or the cool kids did or whomever. AND I’m not talking about influencers like we know them today. It’s much simpler and more basic than that.

Influence exists and, in a day, where people have ALL kinds of opinions, how about we use our influences positively.

All I see on the news is trans rights are bad, Hamas vs Israel, drag queens are banned, no black person is going to live in my neighborhood, Muslims are all terrorists, Jews are cheap, and so many other ugly predispositions and opinions.

That’s ALL bullshit.

Try to reframe it so that your influence is positive. Start small if it seems hard. I’m not suggesting that you forsake all of your beliefs and ideas. That actually defeats the purpose of being human. Instead, I’d like you to consider that your influence is more powerful and far reaching than you might think. Try being more humanistic as opposed to reactionary.

We’re all guilty of that, myself included. I think using our influence in a constructive way can be beneficial to all of us. And couldn’t we all use some more positivity right now?

I challenge all of us to use the power of the “Swift Lift.” Make it your own! Have fun with it. I think you’ll see that you DO have influence.

But we can’t all go out with Travis Kelce. I believe he is taken.

Love and respect y’all, Lisa

Great article and food for thought. We have more influence for good than we realize and every bit of good we can put out in the world is so important right now.
