The Sweetest Sound To Someone Else
It has been said the sweetest sound is hearing your own name. Whomever said that is full of it. Besides the fact that I had my father's name which played into his narcissism; I was stuck being called "Tommy" which I never asked for.
At this point the only time I am referred to that way is by my sister. I still call her "Baby" based on our first impression. Mostly I refer to her by name. Her three syllable name. I never found a cute short version. Take her seriously.
"In thy name shall they rejoice all the day and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted." Before someone says "LinkedIn is not The Book of Psalms" I https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/rejoice-her-name-thomas-jackson/.
If someone calls my name, they want something. At work I was "Torn Between Two Lovers". For those who read my Vernacular in the Workplace series which has inspired six articles and the possibility for a seventh- When one clerk calls to me to carry a package to its destination and the other clerk also has one- I shall carry them both. Which one do I service first?
Too bad women interested in dating are not that interested in me. Are there women interested in dating? On this site; if they are selling something. Wouldn't they end up making me a car service and/or money lender? I have no exes. Most relationships degenerate into my doing things for someone and they cannot reciprocate.

None of which has to do with nagging tones whenever someone calls my name. Ask me to do anything. There is no reason to nag. Too often that is the default setting. If you ask someone to do something and have to ask again, the second request will not be as polite.
Don't come out with guns ablaze. It's not nice hearing my name. Unless someone is happy to see me. I shall always recall my sister running from one end of the baby pool to the other calling my name for the first time. She reached the level where she could formulate words.
Not many on my job have. They say my name when they need something. One supervisor calls me another guy's name. She thinks that is quirky and cute. It is neither. It is unprofessional.
Undoubtedly some people enjoy hearing their names. Andy Vargo hosted a podcast about it. I didn't listen to it. Whomever his guest was is not nagged at work. If it's the only time you hear your name- what's that Fassbinder movie about the guy who runs a fruit cart, everyone takes advantage of him and he drops dead at a young age?
The Merchant of Four Seasons. There are not enough references to New German Cinema on this site. People are nice when you are doing something for them. Avoid the ones who take advantage.
