Sweet Watermelons
Hi Friends,
Knowingly or Unknowingly we sow the seeds of our Karma, Many times we do not understand the deep meaning in our traditions and we mould them for as per our convenance or certain short term gains and then keep wondering about the results.
Our late defense minister Manohar Parrikar has narrated incidence from his own experience. He is from Village Parra (and hence surname, Parrikar) and his village was famous for Watermelons. In his childhood days, villagers used to conduct watermelons eating contest for all children at the end of the season in month of May.. He says, We were allowed to eat as many watermelons as we want…Years later I went to IIT Mumbai for my studies…I came back after nearly 6.5 years…I went to see watermelons, they were gone…I could not find the good size watermelons, what used to be earlier.
I went to see the farmer who used to host the contest…His son had taken over …Now the contest was their but the with little change…when the older farmer used to give us the watermelons, he used to give us the best of the watermelons and we were told not to eat the seeds or swallow it but to spit the seeds…That seeds were collected in bowl and were used for their next crop…on a lighter note, we were used as unpaid child labors . He used to keep his best watermelons for the contest and used to collect the seeds which in turn used to yield bigger watermelons next year….

When his son took over, he realized that, larger , bigger watermelons will fetch more money, so he used to sell them in the market and keep smaller watermelons for the contest…then next year, watermelons were smaller, next year again smaller and it continued…
In 7 years, Parra’s best watermelons were finished… In humans, generations changes in every 25 years…so it would take 200 years, to understand what went wrong….we need to take at most care while following the traditions and passing the traditions to the next generation. Law of nature does not spare. What you sow, so will reap…
So even while doing the charity, one should give the best. Next time, whenever you want to have best fruit, plant best of the best seeds…
