A Sweet, Tender Moment..
I have been meaning to post about a silver haired man who makes his trip religiously, every two weeks to take his frail mother to the Nail Salon in our neighborhood. I'll never forget the first time I visited there, I saw him roll her in. He talked to her with such affection, explaining every step in detail along the way so that she would not be startled by anything being done to her.
After they left, I mentioned to my Nail Tech, what a sweet gesture that was. She replied "Oh yes, every two weeks he brings her by for her manicure and pedicure and asks for the VIP treatment." She mentioned how before, she was able to sit on the Pedicure chair, but now, that was no longer the case. They have to pull out a basin and place it at her feet to complete her pedicure.
It turns out, she had suffered a stroke which rendered her mute but was still somewhat mobile; however, recently sufferred another stroke and is now wheel chair bound 100% of the time. No matter the effort it takes to get her there, it is obvious he does this out of his deep love for her. Today, I had a later appointment and as a result, did not see them but saw yet another son, a Police Officer, bring his elderly mother in to get her nails done. He made light of the moment by mentioning they had just got back from getting her hair done.
What sweet and precious, heart-warming moments. It brings such joy to my heart to see these adult men pampering their aging mothers. In a world where thefts, killings, and politics seem to take center stage, I wanted to take a moment to share this beautiful, moving experience with you all. I have two boys of my own and will be sharing it with them too. Let us not forget the important things in Life.
May we cherish every moment with our children and may they not forget, when the time comes when the roles in life are reversed, to do the same for us.
