Sweden Moving In The Right Direction To Combat Involuntary Loneliness Amongst Elderly.

Sweden Moving In The Right Direction To Combat Involuntary Loneliness Amongst Elderly.

Just finished reading the announcement from the Swedish Government and their plan to allocate approximately 150M SEK over 3 years to combat and prevent involuntary loneliness and social isolation amongst elderly. I praise Sweden for addressing this kind of loneliness as a national and societal problem, and no longer as an individual one. This is a great start, however much more needs to be done to prevent further escalations with regards to involuntary loneliness.?

The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs has four newly appointed Ministers, all instrumental to how we approach The Future of Healthy Longevity with regards to inclusive, active and purposeful ageing (see www.juno-life.com for our approach).???

  • Jakob Forssmed, Minister for Social Affairs.
  • Acko Ankarberg Johansson, Minister for Health Care.
  • Camilla Waltersson Gr?nvall, Minister for Social Services.
  • Anna Tenje, Minister for the Elderly and Social Security.

Social isolation and involuntary loneliness are well known risk factor for many conditions; from depression and suicide to heart disease and dementia. As with most conditions for elderly, they are unfortunately not isolated problems, but more of a catalyst to multiple conditions. Therefore all elements of Healthy Longevity need to be taken into account when combating a single, yet important problems like involuntary loneliness.???

I love the fact that resources are being allocated to support social inclusion of seniors throughout important pillars of society like sports associations, caregiving, senior associations, all in a preventive spirit. However, in order to solve these problems we need a well defined holistic approach.?

Of course I am biased as I believe Junoverse offers the only truly holistic solution for Preventive Healthy Longevity at scale.?

Juno′s ecosystem of digital solutions are built to involve all stakeholders and provide an infrastructure by which we approach key elements of Healthy Longevity in a holistic and personalised way. Only when all elements are incorporated into one ecosystem can we truly approach Healthy Longevity holistically.??

However, the most important part of this wonderful initiative is that funds are not spent on simple, non-sustainable and reactive solutions where someone is paid to care for someone else, but invested in making it easier for elderly people to meet their friends, attend activities, explore new interests and learn new things. But, ultimately to feel empowered to live a healthy, active and social everyday life.?

Quoting the Minister of Social Affairs, Jakob Forssmed from an article:

"Scientists are now developing a drug specially designed to tackle the negative effects of involuntary loneliness. Our joint efforts must be that a drug like that will never be needed."

I agree with him and WE at Junoverse will join his efforts!
