Swatch Group Unveils Latest Group Collab With Blancpain: Genius Move Or Step to Far?

In March 2022, Swatch and OMEGA SA unveiled a successful collaboration, the "Reach for the Planets" Swatch x Omega Bioceramic MoonSwatch collection. Priced affordably at under $350, these watches blended Omega's renowned Speedmaster Professional design with Swatch-like affordability and innovative bioceramic materials. The collaboration was a resounding success within the Swatch Group. Now, Swatch aims to replicate this achievement with its sibling brand, Blancpain .

The latest collaboration, the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection, pays homage to Blancpain's legendary Fifty Fathoms diver's watch, first introduced in 1953. This non-limited series embraces the core attributes of the Fifty Fathoms, including water resistance, legibility, mechanical movement, rotating bezel, and anti-magnetic properties.

These watches feature cases made of Swatch's patented Bioceramic material, comprising two-thirds ceramic and one-third undisclosed material derived from castor oil. The collection comprises five models, each named after one of the world's five oceans. They offer water resistance up to 91 meters and are powered by Swatch's mechanical SISTEM51 movement, known for its automation and durability.

The watches sport unique colorways, an illustration on the case back, and a digital print on the rotor depicting an ocean animal, such as the nudibranchs. NATO straps made from recycled fishing nets underscore the commitment to ocean preservation.

The Swatch logo is engraved on the case side, while "Blancpain x Swatch" is featured on the dial and crown. Subtle historical references, like "No Radiations" on the Arctic Ocean model and a water contact indicator on the Antarctic model, add character to these 42.3mm timepieces, retailing at $400.

This collaboration, much like the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch, defies expectations and showcases the potential of creative partnerships.
