SVPA Publishes State Prevention Policy Score and Map
Sexual Violence Prevention Association (SVPA)
We prevent sexual violence systemically via policy, research, and institutions. CW: sexual violence & child abuse.
On November 1, 2024 the Sexual Violence Prevention Association (SVPA) published the State Legislation & Prevention Scorecards map, an interactive tool that evaluates the effectiveness of sexual violence prevention policies across the United States. This comprehensive database assigns scores to each state based on their laws for preventing sexual violence.
The SVPA Scores are based on 50 types of legislation, within four categories.??
Each state has been given an SVPA Score based on the number of protections they offer. States are also ranked based on the percentage of these criteria they meet.?
The SVPA Prevention Policy Map and SVPA Scores are vital tools for holding our state governments accountable for passing anti-sexual violence legislation. People across the country can use this resource to identify and advocate for sexual violence prevention legislation that their state is currently missing.
By developing this comprehensive index, the SVPA aims to make legislative information accessible and understandable to everyone. Everyone has the right to clear and direct information concerning the protections their government either provides or fails to provide. Increasing awareness will allow individuals, advocacy organizations, and legislators to easily pinpoint areas in which anti-sexual violence legislation must improve.?
