Suzuki Motor Corpn, Toshiba Corpn and Denso Corpn plan to turn their proposed Gujarat joint manufacturing facility for Lithium-ion cells into a global export hub. This is the first factory in India for manufacturing Li-ion cells and it is expected to open around April ,first with assembly of battery packs before producing Li-ion cells around 2025. Lithium cells are the heart of an electric vehicle (EV) and other gadgets such as laptops. Most EV makers currently buy these cells from other countries.
