In the latest Uptime Wind Energy Podcast, Allen Hall and Joel Saxum consider Suzlon Energy’s record-breaking quarter, and it was a doozy, featuring a 5.1 GW order book and 96% earnings increase.

Will the company’s growth carry Suzlon into the US or Australian market?

It's plausible. Tune in as we follow the breadcrumbs…like GE’s departure from India, the increasing activity we see in sales of StrikeTape throughout the country, and more.

Meanwhile, Back in Arkansas - Are We Glowing?

We’ve got lithium. A lot of it. In fact, it’s fair to say, “this could change everything.”

The discovery that between five and 19 million tons of lithium lies in the Smackover Formation in Arkansas essentially doubles the amount of lithium that was thought to exist in the US. The game changer: lithium at a dramatically lower cost than imported supplies could give the battery market a healthy glow.

Wind Farm of the Week: Isabella Wind

Sprawling over roughly 56,000 acres in Isabella and Midland Counties, Michigan, you’ll find the 136 GE turbines of Isabella Wind.

While it currently provides energy to more than 86,000 homes as well as to large industrial consumers (Ford, GM, and the University of Michigan). Owner DTE says that the project can power more than 121,000 homes.

Before building began, a major grassroots effort to educate Michigan residents offered tours of wind farms in operation elsewhere. The tours gave both wind opponents and proponents in the area a clear picture of what wind production would look like in their community.

As a result, more than 600 Isabella County landowners signed leases when Isabella I & II were being developed.

When the developer, Apex, sold to DTE in 2021, DTE combined the two projects into one; it is now known as Isabella Wind. Follow the link below to learn how the wind project benefits the local economy today.

Our Wind Farm of the Week feature highlights some of the interesting ways wind operations are developed, and how they contribute more than “just” wind power to the communities they serve. See a few of the wind farms previously featured here.
