Sustained Sporting Success...
The Institute of Sport
Organisation and people development in the business of sport
I was having a chat with a client today - they have no professional relationship with sport or events - she directs high value projects and technical teams across water and power businesses! She has enormous experience across a range of organisations so I value her input and seek her opinion and advice regularly.
Our discussion was wide ranging but #projectmanagement was at its' core - her message was startlingly clear:
whatever the business or industry sector the benefits of good project management cannot be overstated
She went on - our everyday work has become increasingly project-based and this has resulted in increasing numbers of people finding themselves managing projects - the project manager skill set has never been more crucial.
Food for thought yes as I nudged our conversation towards #sports and how sporting organisations could benefit from getting their heads around project management and utilise sound project management principles.
She contended that the sporting organisations she has been involved with (as a Board member and volunteer) had been slow to realise the fundamental value that good project management can unlock. It is so much more than defining tasks, formulating budgets and scheduling - effective project management can help drive stronger results and in turn create a happier, more engaged sporting organisation.

The opposite is also true - poor project management and planning means that organisations invariably end up wasting precious time and valuable resources. With volunteers already at a premium this is at best careless and at worst may mean a sporting organisation, your sporting organisation ceases to exist!
