Top Takeaways from Waste Expo:
1. Ai is here to stay for sorting waste into more valuable and clean streams.
2. Extended Producer Responsibility will continue to move haulers and MRF's to be more efficient and to accept more materials.
3. Landfills are not going away anytime soon (as much as I wish we could eliminate them) we aren't there yet. So we are preparing with better equipment and focusing on harnessing the methane they produce for good.
4. The food and people of New Orleans are amazing!
5. This year had the most diverse and interesting panel and speakers yet for Waste Expo, it is clear the team there including Christina DeSantis and Florence Torres, CEM are putting in the work to host a great event.
6. Creative and innovative companies like Glass Half Full are stepping in to help turn trash into treasure. We got to tour this facility and they are actually making sand to use in sand bags for FEMA and sand to shore up the coastline. This material would have gone into the landfill in the past and now it's part of the solution!
AICC, The Independent Packaging Association AICC Xperience is postponed! this event will not happen in Chicago this May 23rd. There is talk of having this early next year, so stay tuned! reach out to Taryn Pyle if you're interested in attending or sponsoring early next year.
