This is how waste should be handled!

Petros Palandjian is the CEO of Good Filling I'll post our interview soon.

A great group at the 可口可乐公司 booth talking about reuse and refill including Kim M. Berry, MBA and Bailey Rogers and Mika Unterman

Petros and Grant Rodriguez Amlani showing off the award for Good Filling , if you're interested in joining the US Plastics Pact reach out to Grant!

The amazing Emily Tipaldo is their executive Director , this was one of my favorite panels about reusable packaging standards

Emily was the moderator and Anton Van Zyl from 可口可乐公司 and Sydney Harris from Upstream Jason Hawkins from Reusables.com and Pat Kaufman from PR3 | the Global Alliance to Advance Reuse , i learned a lot from this panel including how critical it is for companies and municipalities to be on the same page and to work with consumers to make the system work.

If you don't know Dr Jon Smieja reach out to him. He did an awesome job as the MC and so much more at this event!

Dr. Jon Smieja on stage

well done Jon!!!

Me and Tom Szaky

Tom Szaky is the CEO of TerraCycle and I'm thankful to be able to call him a friend and mentor. His presentation along with the brilliant Dylan Siegler an SVP at Trellis Group was really impressive.

They discussed the "Triangle Of Stagnation" including

  1. Multi Stake holder Dialogs
  2. Small Pilots
  3. Future/Advance Commitments (5 year plan)

What if you start a discuss a pilot for more sustainable packaging and that process takes 2 years, then you implement a pilot and that takes 1 year. By the time the pilot is over the turn over of the original group who started the discussion may be so great that the team that takes it over won't be engaged with the original plan. So they will start another discussion and make another commitment, then another pilot and around and around we go!

It's time to be more brave and move forward.

Another Great panel with Heather Clancy from GreenBiz and Zahra Biabani the CEO of InTheLoop and Areeb Malik from Glacier and Greg Mulholland the CEO of Citrine Informatics

Solving Sustainable Packaging issues with technology will certainly be the way!

Well don Zahra and team! A really insightful panel

My friends from 谷歌 , Miguel Arevalo and Robert Little gave some very insightful presentations about how google is moving to more circular and sustainable packaging, and how they are providing tools for the rest of the world to do the same.

A great presentation on Ai from Heather Clancy and Robert Little and Jenny Liu

The future is full of possibilities!

Kate Daly from Closed Loop Partners

Chris McFarlane from 星巴克

Heather Watkins co founder of Bold Reuse

Madelyn Morgan from the City of Austin

Collection is the key to a successful reuse project.

It was exciting to learn that Starbucks reuse pilots have gone well and they have plans for larger scale implementation.

Bold Reuse has been doing great things with stadiums like Portland Trail Blazers @ the Rose Quarter eliminating nearly half a million single use plastic cups. With their circular and closed loop system acting locally it's working!

Remember Reuse and Refill are very different, both can work but it has to be the right environment.

Stay tuned for more next week...

Thank you all for your support of this newsletter and podcast. Reach out if I can help you move to more sustainable packaging.
