My visits this week to GITEX Impact , part of GITEX GLOBAL Largest Tech & Startup Show in the World , and the Forbes Sustainability Leaders Summit in the UAE have provided profound insights into the intersection of measurement technology and sustainable development. In my role at KROHNE, and as a proud member of the United Nations Global Compact Network UAE , I have the privilege of witnessing firsthand how innovative technologies can drive progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Insights from GITEX Impact
GITEX Impact served as a pivotal platform for sustainability leaders from various sectors to converge and share their visions for a greener future. The event emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change and highlighted the role of technology in mitigating emissions across industries. Key discussions revolved around Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, with an emphasis on how organizations can leverage measurement technologies to enhance their sustainability efforts.
One of the most compelling takeaways was the recognition that accurate data measurement is fundamental for effective decision-making in sustainability initiatives. By utilizing advanced measurement solutions, companies can gain insights into their carbon footprints, enabling them to set realistic targets and track progress towards the SDGs. The collaborative environment fostered by GITEX Impact allowed for sharing best practices and innovative approaches to sustainability challenges.
A particularly exciting aspect of GITEX Impact was the vibrant climate tech startup scene on display, showcased in the Supernova Challenge. This competition highlights groundbreaking innovations from startups focused on sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disruptors. Startups presented solutions ranging from AI applications to sustainable deep tech innovations aimed at achieving net-zero emissions across various sectors, including foodtech and transportation. This dynamic atmosphere highlighted not only the creativity within the climate tech sector but also its potential to drive significant change.
Reflections from Forbes Sustainability Leaders Summit
The Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit further reinforced these themes, bringing together influential figures to discuss the critical role of trade and innovation in driving sustainable practices. H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, articulated how trade can be a catalyst for sustainability, emphasizing that sustainability is not merely a goal but a journey that requires collective action.
Also hearing from leaders like Eng. Eng. Yasser Zaghloul from NMDC Group highlighted the importance of local solutions to global challenges. His assertion that our legacy must focus on restoration rather than destruction resonates deeply with KROHNE 's commitment to providing technologies that support sustainable practices in industries such as water management and energy efficiency.

KROHNE's Sustainable Innovations
At KROHNE, we are committed to leading this journey with our innovative solutions designed specifically for sustainability. One standout product is EcoMATE?, a comprehensive vessel performance system that provides real-time monitoring of fuel consumption, emissions, and bunkering verification. EcoMATE? not only helps ship operators comply with stringent regulations but also enhances operational efficiency by delivering accurate data on carbon emissions, thereby facilitating informed decision-making.
The system’s modules work in tandem to improve fleet performance while lowering operational costs (OPEX). By integrating advanced flow measurement technologies like OPTIMASS Coriolis mass flowmeters, EcoMATE? ensures precise monitoring across various vessel types, enabling operators to optimize their operations effectively.
In addition to EcoMATE?, KROHNE adheres to our Ten Golden Eco Design Rules, which guide our product development toward sustainability. These principles emphasize resource efficiency, lifecycle thinking, and minimizing environmental impact throughout the design process. By embedding these rules into our innovations, we ensure that our technologies not only meet current regulatory requirements but also anticipate future sustainability challenges.
New Perspectives on Measurement Technology
Both events underscored a transformative perspective on measurement technology as a cornerstone for achieving sustainability goals. Here are some key reflections:
