????? Once upon a time, in India's scenic ghat region, a winding road turned into a nightmare for drivers every monsoon season. Potholes, accidents, and car repairs made life tough for the local community. ????

?? Frustrated residents bombarded the local MLA's office with complaints. They needed a solution ASAP! ?

?? In 2009, a new idea emerged: paving fabric. This geotextile layer goes between the subgrade & asphalt, keeping water & debris from damaging the road. ???

?? Skeptical locals watched as the MLA's office took a chance on this innovative solution. Guess what? It worked! ??

?? The paving fabric & edge drains transformed the treacherous road into a smooth, safe route for all. No more potholes or yearly maintenance costs! ????

?? The town rejoiced! The MLA's office could now allocate funds for other community programs. Residents felt relief & gratitude, and the MLA even got reelected! ???

?? So, if you're tired of the same old road woes, consider paving fabric or other sustainable engineering solutions. Let's pave the way to a better future for our communities! ????

Here is trying to outline some of the applications(only some!) of Geosynthetics systems for you all.

Please keep in mind that Geosystems, as an essential part of the control systems, perform the priceless duty of protecting life and property from the whims of nature in addition to promoting sustainable development.

Flood control: Geosystems for flood control

Flood control bags, Geosynthetic-tubular structures, and other stand-alone systems or combination mechanisms.(Huge woven Geo-bags for example)

Depending upon the specific condition prevailing this needs to be designed taking note of the historical data available for flood occurrences previously such as HFL and other engineering considerations.

Erosion Control: Erosion control mechanism with Geo-synthetics

Systems made of Geo-textiles(Woven or non-Woven)| Gabions |Grther products again independently or combined as per the specific purpose for which this needs to be designed.

For example, riverbanks, steep slopes on cuttings, and beachsides would require different considerations while selecting the system. Geo-tubes would be suitable for beach nourishment and prevention of erosion on the marine front. However, the gabions may be more suitable if the height is more because this could be constructed as a wall by itself to protect the side slopes.

Embankment construction on soft soil: PVD's/Geo-grids and other Geo-systems.

It could be formation for a road or a railway line and in such cases, geo-grids and high-strength woven geotextiles or other products to be used again as per a specific design.

In cases where the soil bearing capacity is negligible there is also a need to do ground improvement in the first place.

If it is a dredged and reclaimed area then it calls for using the vertical drains(Pvd's) to facilitate the process of consolidation relatively easy to start constructing on a faster basis.

Providing strengthening: Geo products can be made use of in strengthening applications very effectively.

In all such applications depending on the particular site-specific data the geotechnical engineer and the consultant in charge of the project need to take a call on the appropriate geosynthetic system that would bring in the desirable results. Often Geotextiles, Geo-grids, and even Geo-cells would be ideally suitable for these types of applications.

River training works and Sea wall construction:

Geo-bags |Geo-synthetics tubular structures |Gabions are some of the systems used in this case.

There are soft solutions and hard solutions in these cases again. While mostly in river training Geo-bags or even Gabions could be made use of (of course other new systems are being developed). But when it comes to sea walls the concept is different. Obviother new systems are being forced in these cases and also we need solutions that will sustain even the effect of Tsunami waves if such a situation were to occur.

So seawalls are ideally made in combinations with large-sized rocks/quarry stones which are used also along with appropriate Geo-systems.

These are some of the applications of Geo-systems. (In fact, the applications of Geosynthetics in civil engineering being a vast topic only an attempt to touch the very basic aspect is made here.)

Would you like to know more about some of the effective and eco-friendly geosynthetic applications in your current projects?

Link about some products including biodegradable and sustainable materials:-

geotextiles:-

Woven geotextiles are used for a variety of applications in civil engineering as well as environmental engineering applications. We manufacture woven PPMF/PET/PP geotextiles from 130 Gsm onwards in a 5.0 M roll width. Customized production to meet your specific project requirement is also possible.

-grids:

Geogrids are used in reinforced earth walls(RE Wa alls) or as soil reinforcement elements in infrastructure projects. Available in uni-axial range {from 40 kn to 300 Kn} and bi-axial range (from 20 Kn to 80 Kn).

-membnes .....

Used for landfill engineering applications, pond lining as well as creating an impervious layer.? Geo-membranes are available from 250 to 1500 microns.?

......Used for filtration, separation, and sub-base strengthening to name a few. Again this can be manufactured on a variety of gsms and thicknesses depending upon your requirements.

tubes, Geo-bags, and Geo-containers:- These are systems tailor-made for various coastal protection and flood control applications.

:

coir geotextiles:-

These sustainable products are also manufactured as per your requirements.

Right now we are applying it selectively being a costly item. Huge potential if we can use this technology for conventional approach of providing breast wall in hill roads resulting in reduced cutting and being more stable than breast wall.

Nice article. Lot of potential in the new technology however challenge is to make it economical if we want to use it
