Sustainability in Spain: Zaragoza and Valencia.
Joris van der Heijden
Improve your Business in Spain - Lasting Impact guaranteed.
I have been deeply involved in supporting a wind energy company in Zaragoza, helping them enhance various aspects of their business operations in Spain.
I remain engaged, while the initial intensity of my role has lessened as the strategy has been formed, and the team has taken ownership.
This tailor-made approach has proven to be the ideal solution for this client.
What was my focus?
Following a comprehensive analysis of processes and financials, along with extensive discussions with directors and staff, I proposed key areas for improvement.
The Dutch board of directors approved my suggested focus on:
Improving efficiency in business operations,
Realign the Spanish strategy,
Uplifting the Management roles, and
Clear communications with the Dutch CEO and CFO.
Why did this improvement in Spain intrigue me?
After living in Spain for 8 years, every time when I am back in the Netherland and driving through the country, especially in the North (which I always visit when I am there), one thing strikes me every time: more and more windmills are popping up, delivering more and more sustainable energy.
This has interested, more so intrigued me for years.
Last year I was contacted by a Dutch windmill company. The asked me to assist them with the optimization and strategic preparation in Spain.
This was a very nice coming together of circumstances: me being passionate about sustainbility and this client in addition being passionate about further improving the Spanish operations, of course in a sustainable way with lasting impact on strategy, team and ultimately: result.
How does this link to Valencia?
How does this business case of my client in sustainable energy in Zaragosa relate to sustainability in Valencia as suggested in the title?
I recently read an article about the title Valencia has won. Valencia has positioned itself as a frontrunner by receiving the prestigious title of European Green Capital 2024, recognizing its leadership in environmental innovation across Europe. In other words: Valencia leads the way towards sustainability in Europe.
This award is granted by the European Commission since 2010. It honors cities that:

Valencia's Plans for 2025
Building on its success as the European Green Capital 2024, Valencia is already setting ambitious sustainability goals for 2025: the city plans to further expand its renewable energy infrastructure, with additional solar and wind energy projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Moreover, Valencia intends to implement new urban reforestation programs, increasing tree coverage and green spaces to combat rising temperatures. Enhanced circular economy initiatives are also in the pipeline, promoting waste reduction and resource efficiency.
With these forward-thinking strategies, Valencia continues to pave the way for a cleaner, more resilient future.
