?? Why is Europe experiencing such extremes in its weather and what can be done?

The weather in Europe this July is a tale of two halves. In the north of the continent, temperatures have been far below average, with significantly more rain than normal, while the south is battling heat waves and wildfires. Overall, July 2023 - June 2024 have been the warmest ever on record, coming in at 0.76 Celsius above the 1991-2020 average and a further 1.64°C above the pre-industrial average. Experts warn that European leaders need to address the concerning trends in weather across the continent - and fast. Read more

?? Lego sets stricter emissions reductions requirements for suppliers

the LEGO Group , the world’s largest toy company, will require suppliers to set near-term emissions reduction targets by 2026, a move it says is necessary to keep its net-zero goals on track. Lego has committed to cutting its carbon footprint by 37% by 2032 and reaching net zero by 2050. Close to 99% of Lego’s emissions come from Scope 3, which covers the activities of its supply chain. ?? Carrefour celebrates Plastic Free July in the UAE

家乐福 has launched the internationally observed Plastic Free July campaign by promoting the use of its durable, resusable juco bags with offers and rewards, in addition to limiting the availability of its reusable plastic bags throughout its stores in the UAE.?To mark the start of Plastic Free July, Carrefour will offer its customers a 33 % discount on Carrefour’s durable, reusable juco bag, while customers who bring their own reusable bags or opt to purchase one in-store will be rewarded with five extra share points. ?? First City-Wide Reuse System "The Petaluma Reusable Cup Project' launched in California

Starbucks, The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo, Peet's Coffee, Yum! Brands, and other global and local brands and restaurants are partnering in The Petaluma Reusable Cup Project — an unprecedented collaboration to drive reuse. Starting August 5, more than 30 restaurants in the City of Petaluma, California will swap their single-use to-go cups for reusable cups for all customers at no cost; and widespread return points will also be available across the city. As the first initiative of its kind that makes reusable to-go cups the default option across multiple restaurants. Read more

?? Amazon powered entire global operations with clean power contracts in 2023

亚马逊 directly procured enough power from wind, solar, and other renewables generators to match all its electricity needs last year, reaching the milestone seven years ahead of schedule. The company has been the world's largest corporate buyer of renewable power for the past four years, striking numerous corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the aim of matching the power use of its entire global operations with clean electricity supplies by 2030.
