United Nations calls for a global ban on fossil-fuel advertising earlier this month. This is just the latest signal of the turning tide when it comes to shutting down polluter greenwashing claims. Many cities and governments are now examining their role in the climate crisis in terms of media influence and intervention, together with those industries that risk being complicit in spreading disinformation if they don’t take action. ?? Governments call for?crackdown on ‘fast fashion’ ahead of key vote
EU countries are calling for legislation allowing additional levies on clothing companies who use a cheap 'fast fashion' marketing strategy. Austria, Finland, France and the Netherlands have called on their EU peers to back tough measures to clamp down on the wasteful trend for cheap and disposable garments, by enabling governments to levy charges on firms whose marketing strategy promotes ‘fast fashion’ consumerism. Germany is aiming to make the EURO 2024 football tournament the greenest ever but its ambitions could be higher if national teams just played ball and cut out flying, according to Transport & Environment (T&E) .?National teams could slash their emissions by 60% if they opt out of flying and choose to travel by train or coach, an analysis by the umbrella organisation representing NGOs promoting sustainable travel found. ?? How Starbucks doubled the number of its 'Greener Stores'
As of March, Starbucks classified almost 16 percent of its 38,587 cafes as "Greener Stores," locations that meet rigorous requirements for waste, energy and water savings.?That's almost double the number it reported in April 2023, and more than halfway to 10,000, the number Starbucks wants to certify worldwide by the end of 2025. The vast majority of those locations (5,488) are in North America. Starbucks has about 38,600 cafes globally.?Read more
?? McDonald’s franchisee adopts biobased barrier coating for fast food packs
Independent McDonald's franchisee Arcos Dorados Holdings is applying J&J Green Paper 's ‘all-natural’ barrier coating to its paper food packaging in a bid to phase out plastics, PFAS chemicals, and consumer waste in the fast food sector. Designed to resist grease, water, and oxygen, J&J Green Paper’s JANUS coating is reportedly 100% biodegradable, home-compostable and recyclable. Read more
